100% relaxation experience: day 2
Day 2 : Around Sables d’Olonne and the Veillon site…
For this second escapade 100% nature, direction the city of the Vendée Globe…
We suggest you spend the morning visiting this pearl of the Atlantic.
What makes the charm of Les Sables d’Olonne, is that this seaside resort has preserved an authentic character. The fishing port is still very active and the neighborhoods are lively all year round.
To soak up this atmosphere, we invite you to stroll through the narrow streets of the Chaume district, one of the most emblematic of the city.
While walking in this fishermen’s district, you will discover small low houses typical of the area. It reigns in this place a singular atmosphere, light, and we understand better why this district occupies a place with share in the heart of the sablais.
Before reaching the famous Sables embankment and enjoying its magnificent waterfront, we recommend a stop at Penotte Island.
It is a curiosity of the city that deserves a visit.
A little history…
Penotte Island or the Lady of the Shell is the story of an artist who wanted to give her childhood neighborhood a new glow. In 1997, after convincing the public authorities, she finally took on this magnificent challenge. She composes frescoes on the walls of houses with shells that she recovers on the beach. The result is amazing.
This art of patience and precision have given birth to a work as remarkable as it is atypical.
Today, the people of Sablais are proud to talk about this open-air museum that stands in the heart of the city.
For lunch, why not treat yourself and book a restaurant with a sea view…
If you are tempted by the idea, go to the Veillon site, in Talmont Saint Hilaire, at the restaurant-bar of the Beach.
It takes about 20 minutes by car but believe us, you won’t be disappointed.
You will find homemade and unpretentious dishes. The quality-price ratio is excellent. Above all, you will enjoy a sublime view on one of the most beautiful sites of Vendée. Don’t miss it!
An afternoon on the Veillon site…
After lunch you will have a difficult choice to make.
Take advantage of this beautiful sandy beach to relax and swim.
OR for the more curious,
Take a hike of about 6 kilometers to explore this unique place.
Good to know before embarking on this journey…
Through the dune, the forest and the Veillon marsh, this hike is accessible to all and presents no difficulty EXCEPT for strollers (unplayable in the sand).
Departure from the parking lot of the Veillon Beach (You understand better why the restaurant La Plage was a good plan)
Duration of the hike : 1H45
NB: If you want to get a precise map and all the details of this hike, you can find it on the Visorando application)
When you come back from this magnificent escapade, you will only have to dive into the waves to refresh yourself… and look up to the sky to say…
“How lucky I am to be here!”.
